El sitio oficial de la Iglesia de Satán ofrece una lista de films recomendadas por ellos que no da mucha explicación al respecto. Algunas parecerían lógicas para satanistas (como Rosemary’s Baby, Bedazzled o el clásico de culto Evilspeak) pero otras, todo lo contrario (está Willy Wonka,Strangers on a Train y Treasure of the Sierra Madre).
El sitio io9 decidió investigar un poco acerca de esta lista y entrevistó a Magus Peter H. Gilmore, sumo sacerdote de la Iglesia de Satán.
Gilmore primero ofreció una buena explicación sobre la filosofía satánica: “Creemos que tanto Dios como Satán son un mito y elegimos el mito de Satán”.
El satanismo es una filosofía ateísta que usa a Satán como un símbolo de orgullo, libertad e individualismo, como lo hicieron muchos antes de nosotros que no aceptaban el statu quo como Milton, Byron, Twain y Carducci. Ya que el universo es indiferente a nosotros, nosotros los satanistas elegimos establecer nuestra propia jerarquía subjetiva de valores con nosotros como los más altos en ella.
Aceptamos toda la gama de emociones como sanas, del amor al odio, notando que ambos son extremos descomunales.
Los satanistas vemos al hombre como sólo otro animal, y por lo tanto nos preocupa la Tierra y el ecosistema. Apoyamos todo tipo de sexualidad humana entre dos adultos en consentimiento y creemos que la sociedad debería regirse por un contrato social secular con leyes racionales para regular el comportamiento de manera que se tenga el máximo nivel de libertad.
La siguiente es la lista de películas que propone la secta satanista como una buena representación de sus valores y principios.
